SUNDAY MAY 7TH 2017 @ 3:00PM ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH 158 EAST AVENUE HILTON, NEW YORK 14468 CLM formed a teen group that currently ministers to 12 youth. Led by Don and Suzi Grosz and Philip Johnson, they study the bible and enjoy fun times together. They also visited Henderson Ford and Rochester General Hospital to learn about careers and job opportunities.
Each year Community Lutheran Ministry, supported by local churches, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner for residents in the 14621 area. This year’s dinner will be on Saturday November 22nd, 2014.
Letters have been mailed to local churches and several individuals, who have participated in the past, asking for contributions of food, helpers and funds. Last year we fed about 580 people a traditional Thanksgiving feast of turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables: corn and green beans, tossed salad, cranberry sauce and rolls. Choice of pie, cake or cookies completes the meal. In September, the Rochester City School District contacted Ms Maggie Harris, Director/Deaconess at Community Lutheran Ministry, Inc. to ask if she could provide an after-school program for up to 40 children. For those of you who know Ms. Maggie, you know what her answer was —- a resounding YES!
So our program has grown from 12 students to 28 children (mostly 3rd graders). They are accompanied from their school by CLM staff; and for an hour and half do homework, receive tutoring if needed and have a meal; after which they return to school to catch a bus to go home. The children take turns in leading the prayer and serving the meals. This has been a great experience for both the staff and children. Eight of the students have signed up for the African Drumming instruction at Reformation Lutheran Church (sponsored by Loop Ministries). Two afternoons a week they leave school an hour earlier than normal. The logistics of this arrangement sounds complicated to us adults, but the children understand it and really look forward to drumming days. How can you help? The food is privately donated and contributions are welcomed. Summer Camp 2014The CLM Traveling Summer Day Camp was a huge success! We had over 180 children apply and 160 actually participated during the six weeks. Our average attendance was 106. This was the 24th year that we have provided a camp for inner city kids. Thanks to your phenomenal response to our “Summer Challenge” it was our best year ever.
